UPMC Whitfield Cancer Centre specialises in radiation therapy (also called radiotherapy), which uses high-energy x-rays to fight cancer cells. For some types of cancer, radiation therapy may be used as the primary treatment, although it also may be used in conjunction with surgery, hormonal therapy and/or chemotherapy. Radiation therapy may also be used to relieve pain or other symptoms.
