Radiation Therapy Services
Radiation therapy (sometimes called radiotherapy or irradiation) is the use of high energy waves of particles
or x-rays delivered by a machine called a linear accelerator. During treatment, high doses of radiation directed at cancer cells in the body either kill the cells or stop them from growing and dividing.
UPMC Whitfield Cancer Centre offers convenient access to a wide range of treatment options, including Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), a state-of-the-art treatment that delivers radiation to tumours with greater accuracy and precision, resulting in fewer side effects for the patient.
Our specialised team of Radiation Oncology Consultants, Physicists, Radiation Oncology Nurses and Radiation Therapists works together to determine the best course of treatment and care for each patient’s specific needs.
